How much in my diet?



One Iodine+ Capsule daily with your first food or drink of the day, typically provides 350µg of naturally chelated stable iodine, which is approximately twice the RNI which is the British Government’s estimated average requirement for 98% of the population.

For children over 5 years of age use one Iodine Lite+ capsule.

For children under 5 we suggest using Iodine+ Lite - the capsule is easily opened and half the content can be added to a juice or smoothie. Seagreens® is particularly good in apple or mixed vegetable juices.

You might also consider using Seagreens® Culinary Ingredient mixed into the child’s food. It’s the same seaweed in a granular form.

Simply mix into cerals, risottos, pastas, soups or other foods, even yoghurt. It's especially good in nut butters!

Why more iodine than the RNI?

Firstly because our ground-breaking research at Glasgow University, published in the british Journal of Nutrition in 2014, shows that only about a third of the iodine content is taken up in the body out of the matrix of the seaweed.

Secondly, although we hate to disagree with the Government, among all ages there is sound evidence for a higher RNI of iodine as sound preventative measure against iodine insufficiency.

Data from the NDNS indicate that 12% (1 in 8) young women have intakes below the LRNI (the amount of a nutrient that is enough for those with low requirements, estimated at 2.5% of the population).
