Seagreens® are the unique products of two decades' research and production experience.

We can support your NPD and ongoing product development with unparalled know-how, informed by our own years of trial and error.

Why Seagreens®?

We are the leading seaweed ingredient company worldwide - for good reason.

Seagreens has developed a range of species with different properties to suit many food, drink and nutrition applications.

Consistently nutritious, consistently compliant with food regulations, consistently researched and ahead of the field.

Our customers use Seagreens to reduce salt; for their umami flavours; to add nutrients to special foods and drinks; and in nutritional therapy for their proven benefits in a range of health conditions.

Above all, because when they are consumed, you and your consumers will know exactly what they are eating.

Which cannot be said with anything like the same deegree of assurance, for seaweeds from other sources.

In addition to which we have supplied from stock, with never a break, for 20 years.

There's a very brief introduction top right of this page.

Please click here if your main interest is human nutrition.

And above all, please involve us in your proposed application as early as possible.

We would love to work with you.

Our comparative analytical data, on seaweed nutrients and contaminants, is unique because we pioneered this new industry.

We still lead the field on quality assurance, applied nutrition research, and international regulatory compliance, even with new competitors.

Seagreens® has independent Nutritious Food Seaweed certification  - the highest standard in the world - as well as niche certification like BRC, organic and kosher.

Uniquely, we also offer our customers the option to use our brand name to identify the ingredient in their product.

We are proud to lend our reputation to the seaweed ingredient in your product.

If there are problems or negative press from inferior seaweeds - and there have been in recent years - your product and brand is protected and consumers can see the difference for themselves.

Most of our customers identify the Seagreens® ingredient in their product, and we call them Brand Partners.

They receive valuable additional benefits on price, continuity, technical and marketing support.

There are seaweeds in the market which should not enter the human food chain.

Some are produced for horticulture, animal feed or extracts, or come from unchecked artisan production, collected by hand on the shoreline.

Under direct management, we select and harvest at remote locations in the British Isles and Nordic region.

We conduct all our final processing in the UK.

Seagreens® are 'made in Great Britain' and we proudly export to more than 12 countries around the world.

Our business model is a modern consortium, administered by the Seagreens Trust in the interests of our Partners and Customers.

For more information about standards and certification please click here.

Seagreens is the result of an Anglo-Scandinavian joint venture which began in the Trondheim archipelago in Norway in 1997.

Seagreens was set up to focus exclusively on seaweed prouction for human nutrition through food and drink ingredients and medical therapy.

We have developed production at 5 different locations in the British Isles and Nordic region, and have market experience worldwide.

An article published in 1955 in the magazine “Der Spiegel” (in German) has come to light. The article is about a German man in the 50's importing seaweed from Norway and selling it to bakeries for use in bread making. Mr Lienau wanted to make seaweed usable for nutrition in Germany.
